Migration
Move Your GoDaddy Website to WordPress
A GoDaddy Website Builder site cannot be exported to WordPress, so it is rebuilt: same pages, same addresses, same domain. A WordPress site on GoDaddy hosting is simpler. It is copied across as it is. We do both for a fixed price.
Rebuild from the Website Builder: from $1,500, about two weeks.
Moving an existing WordPress site: no migration fee with 12 months of hosting.
Send us your site address. We reply with which of the two moves you need and what it costs.
Which move do you need?
You built the site in GoDaddy’s Website Builder
The builder has no export to WordPress. We rebuild each page in WordPress with your text and images, keep every page address the same or redirect it, and switch the domain over when you have approved the new site.
You already run WordPress on GoDaddy hosting
Nothing is rebuilt. We copy the files and the database to our hosting, test the copy on a private address, then point the domain at it. Your site looks the same the next morning, on a different server.
Not sure which you have
Most people are not. Send us the address and we will tell you. If you log in at GoDaddy and edit pages by dragging blocks around, it is the Website Builder.
What moves, and what stays where it is
| Your domain name | Stays registered at GoDaddy if you like. Only the record that says where the website lives is changed. |
|---|---|
| Your email | Is not touched. We leave the mail records alone, so mailboxes you buy through GoDaddy keep working. |
| Pages, text and images | All of it moves. On a rebuild we carry it over page by page. |
| Your place in Google | Every old page address either stays the same or is redirected to its new one, and the new sitemap is submitted to Google. That is what protects the rankings you have. |
| Contact forms | Are rebuilt and tested so enquiries reach the same inbox. |
| A GoDaddy online store | Is a bigger job than a brochure site. We quote it separately after looking at your products and orders. |
How the move works
The scope and the price are agreed before any work starts.
We look at your site
From the address alone, or on a 30-minute call if you prefer. We list every page, form and redirect, tell you which move you need, and give you a fixed price in writing.
We build and you check
The new site is built on a private address. Your GoDaddy site stays live the whole time. You review the new one and we fix what you find.
We switch the domain
We point the domain at the new site, check the redirects and the forms, and submit the sitemap. You get the logins and 30 days of support after launch.
What it costs
| Rebuild from GoDaddy Website Builder | From $1,500, one time. About two weeks. |
|---|---|
| Move an existing WordPress site off GoDaddy hosting | No migration fee with 12 months of hosting. |
| Managed WordPress hosting | $35 a month. Server updates, security, backups and the SSL certificate are included. |
| Dedicated server hosting | From $49 a month. Your site on its own server, with the same care included. |
You own the WordPress site and everything in it. If you leave, you take it with you. See what managed hosting includes, or a site we built and host.
Frequently asked questions
Can I transfer my GoDaddy Website Builder site to WordPress?
Not with an export. The builder does not produce a file WordPress can import, so the site is rebuilt in WordPress with your existing text and images. Your domain and your page addresses carry over.
How do I move from GoDaddy to WordPress hosting?
If the site is already WordPress, the files and database are copied to the new host, tested, and the domain is pointed at the copy. We do this for you, with no migration fee on a 12-month hosting plan.
Will my site go down during the move?
No. The old site stays live until the new one is ready and approved. The switch is a change to one domain record, and visitors reach one site or the other while it takes effect.
Will I lose my Google rankings?
Rankings are tied to page addresses. We keep each address the same or add a permanent redirect from the old one to the new one, which is what Google asks for when a site moves. No one can promise rankings, but this is the part of a move that protects them.
Do I have to move my domain away from GoDaddy?
No. The domain can stay registered there. Only the record pointing at the website changes, and your email records are left as they are.
How much does it cost to convert a GoDaddy site to WordPress?
A rebuild from the Website Builder starts at $1,500 for a standard small business site and takes about two weeks. An online store is quoted separately. Moving a site that is already WordPress has no migration fee with 12 months of hosting at $35 a month.
